Holding A Newborn Baby

Have you ever thought about holding a newborn baby? You press them to your chest and hold them tightly. They feel so perfect, yet fragile. Their soft skin is flawless and warm. You notice their little features...ten little fingers, ten little toes, two twinkling eyes and one tiny nose...their lips look as though they were delicately chiseled. You cradle them closely and think of the protection they once knew. Living quietly in their mother's womb, they knew nothing but warmth and safety. Rarely, do I hold a newborn baby without thinking about this passage: Psalm 139:13-16
"13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
16 your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be."
It inspires me to think of the love God put into creating and knowing each and every one of us. It is amazing to realize all the little details that fit so perfectly in place for the miracle of life and birth. When I think of this passage I realize the depths of God love. In those tender and precious moments of enjoying a newborn baby I try to envision myself in the Master's hands. Will I see, feel, know, and return that precious love?
"It is not a slight thing when they, who are fresh from God, love us."-- Charles Dickens
